Too much sugar isn't sweet for you

As a follow-up to yesterday’s post, another report from the same group that concluded that too much red meat is not good for you also found that (for men) drinking too many sugared drinks was also not a healthy thing to do in that it raised the risk of heart disease.

Why?

Not sure, of course, but the researchers did find that the men with that higher risk of heart disease also had higher levels on inflammatory proteins in their blood as well as elevated levels of triglycerides, both of which are linked to heart disease.

In other words, too much sugar can damage your cardiovascular system.

The surprising thing in this study, though, is that it really didn’t take much sugar to do the damage.

In fact, men who consumed only one sugary drink a day were found to have that elevated heart disease risk, although men who drank only 2 or fewer sugar drinks a week did not.
