Rack up yet another benefit to that morning cup – or 3 –
of Joe: a study from McGill University involving 61 patients and published in
the online edition of the journal, Neurology,
found that caffeine (in the form of a pill, alas, with a specific dose of
caffeine in it) helped improve the movement symptoms of people afflicted with
Parkinson’s disease, although the caffeine did not help the participants in
this study feel more awake (excessive sleepiness is a common symptom in PD).
This study comes on top of others that have concluded that
PD is less common in people who drink coffee on a regular basis.
As I keep saying, if you are really interested in finding
a health drink, you can’t do any better than ask your local barrista to brew
you a cup – or two – or even three.
Every day.
